Arthur Jones, Defensive Lineman who spent his first four seasons at NFL in Baltimore and won a super bowl with the Ravens, passed away. He was 39 years old.
Syracuse, a university where Jones studied, said he died on Friday morning. Both the institution and the Ravens did not disclose the cause of death in their communications.
“Arthur’s presence was a gift for everyone who knew him,” said Eric Decosta, general manager of the Ravens. “His wide and bright smile, contagious energy and eternal positivity created a presence that constantly raised others.”
Jones was chosen in the fifth round of the 2010 draft and won 8.5 of his 10 career Sacks in a period of two seasons between 2012-13. The Ravens beat San Francisco at Super Bowl at the end of the 2012 season.
Jones knocked down 49ers quarterback, Colin Kaepernick, moments before one in the gifted in New Orleans. He also recovered a fumble on that Super Bowl.
Jones spent two years with Indianapolis and went to Washington in 2017.
Jones played for Syracuse and was the older brother of former UFC weight-champion Jon Jones and Chandler Jones, Defensive End who played for Syracuse and NFL, four times selected for Pro Bowl and winner of one with New England.
Jones accumulated 38.5 tackles for yards loss in Syracuse, a university record for an inner Lineman defensive. It was selected for the first All-Big East team in its last two seasons.
“Arthur Jones was an extraordinary player and an even better person,” said John Wildhack, athletic director of Syracuse. “We were lucky enough to rely on Arthur’s continuous support to our football show after his career as a player. He impacted many of our university athletes, always with a smile and an inspiring message.”
