In an interview with CNN 360ºthis Friday (3), the Minister of Health, Alexandre Padilha, explained that the government is taking steps to ensure the proper treatment of cases of and stressed that the pharmaceutical ethanol, one of the antidotes considered gold standard, is now available and has shown high effectiveness.
“The federal government has made a strategic purchase of pharmaceutical ethanol, which is being available to reference centers and health facilities. In addition, 609 manipulation pharmacies were mapped throughout the national territory that have the product in stock,” said Padilha.
At the same time, health authorities are dealing with the acquisition of, another gold standard antidote, which has greater ease of management in some patients. However, this medicine is not marketed in Brazil or on the American continent, with limited distribution globally.
“We made contact with suppliers and the Pan American Health Organization. The ministry requested the immediate donation of 100 treatments, as well as expressing interest in the purchase of up to 1,000 additional units. International producers are expected to make the hunger available as soon as possible,” says Padilha.
The Ministry of Health issued a specific note on the management of, guiding medical professionals to start treatment even before laboratory confirmation. Recommendations include hydration, monitoring, identification of metabolic acidosis and use of pharmaceutical ethanol as soon as there is a clinical suspicion of poisoning.
