The Brazilian team has expanded the list of bad results in the base categories tournaments with early elimination still in the group stage of the U20 World Cup that is being held in Chile.
Under the command of coach Ramon Menezes, the team was defeated on Saturday (4) by Spain 1-0 at the National Stadium of Santiago, as a result that sacracted Brazilian disqualification.
The only goal of the game was scored two minutes into the second half by 20 -year -old striker Iker Bravo from Udinese. Even with the victory, Spain also fell in the group stage.
Brazil ended in the group’s flashlight and returns home without any victory, with the conquest of only one point. In the previous rounds, he drew 2-2 with Mexico and lost 2-1 to Morocco, the two teams that were guaranteed in the next phase.
The Brazilian team had never been disqualified in the group stage of the U20 World Cup, considering the editions in which the team participated.
Pental champion of the tournament —1983, 1985, 1993, 2003 and 2011 -, which began in 1977, Brazil did not just participate in the 1979, 2013, 2017 and 2019 editions.
The team also got the vice four times, in 1991, 1995, 2009 and 2015, in decisions against Portugal, Argentina, Ghana and Serbia, respectively.
The worst result so far in the competition was the fall in the round of 16, in the 2007 edition, also against Spain.
In the last edition, in Argentina, in 2023, already under the command of Ramon Menezes, the national team, with Andrey Santos and Marcos Leonardo in the group, was eliminated in the quarterfinals by Israel in extension. Uruguay was the champion, beating Italy in the final.
Olympic two -time champion at the Rio Games in 2016 and Tokyo in 2021, the Brazilian team had also been out of Paris Games in 2024, U23 tournament. With names like Endrick and John Kennedy, Brazil ended third in the regional qualifier for the Olympics, seeing Argentina and Paraguay have the vacancies.
Because it is not a FIFA date, clubs are not obliged to give rise to national teams in the grassroots tournaments, which causes important embezzlement to teams.
The Brazilian team could not have, for example, with names such as Stephen, 18, and Endrick, 19, from Chelsea and Real Madrid, respectively, and already summoned by Carlo Ancelotti, while Spain did not have Lamine Yamal, Barcelona, Euro champion with the main national team in 2024.
The main name of the cast in Chile was striker Wesley, revealed by Corinthians and today at Al Nassr, Saudi Arabia. Striker Pedrinho, also formed at the Corinthian base and today at Zenit, would be released by the club to join the group if Brazil had advanced to the knockout phase.
“The fan is sad, upset, but sometimes he does not understand all context, all our difficulty. We had little time to work, to train, because otherwise, even these athletes would have been released,” said Ramon Menezes after the defeat.
