Israel denies abuse to Greta Thunberg

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on Sunday (5) that the legal rights of the Sumud Global Humanitarian activists, classified as “the Hamas-Sumud Flotilha”, “are fully respected,” after several of them reported the conditions of their detention in the country and abuse against Swedish activist.

“The accusations of abuse to Greta Thunberg and other detainees of the Hamas-Sumud Flotilha are blatant lies. All the legal rights of the detainees are fully respected,” the ministry said in a statement published on his social network account.

The folder added that “Greta and other detainees herself refused to accelerate her deportation and insisted on extending her stay in custody,” and stressed that the Swedish activist “did not file a complaint to the Israeli authorities about absurd and unfounded accusations because they have never occurred.”

On Saturday, several activists of the Sumud Global Flotilha deported to report that they were kept with their hands tied in the back and without access to water or food for a period between 36 and 40 hours. Some stated that, in the face of lack of liquids, they tried to drink water from the toilet.

The activists also accuse the Israeli forces to have assaulted and dealt with in a degrading manner Greta Thunberg, which was allegedly dragged on the floor and forced to kiss a flag of Israel.

Flotilha vessels, which transported humanitarian aid, were intercepted last Thursday and Friday by the Navy of Israel in international waters, about 70 nautical miles from the coast of, in an area where Israel maintains naval patrols, though without legal jurisdiction. Israel’s defense forces justified the operation claiming that the vessels were heading to “an active combat zone”.
