Robbie Williams’ concert, which would take place on Tuesday, October 7, was canceled after intense reactions on social media due to charges of being a “Zionist”.
The organizing company, as reported by Turkiye Today, cited the reaction of the public and the potential risks to safety as reasons for cancellation.
The singer, who had a special relationship with Turkey through his wife, Eida Field, who was born in Turkey, faced a strong reaction to social media.
According to Turkish media, criticism focused particularly on Field’s mother, Gwen Field, who is of Jewish descent.
Williams had explained in 2023 during his concert in Tel Aviv that his wife is Jewish, so their children grow up as Jews, and that he maintains certain family traditions out of respect for their legacy. He also has a tattoo on his wrist with the Jewish word “Simcha”, which means happiness.
Williams was also criticized in 2015 for his scheduled concert in Tel Aviv. Supporters of the BDS movement argued that the concert in Israel would legalize Israeli policies against the Palestinians.
Although artists such as Roger Waters had urged him to cancel the concert, the British artist normally appeared in front of 40,000 spectators.
