At least five civilians died after Russia launched drones, missiles and bombs in Ukraine at dawn on Sunday, in a major night attack that, according to local authorities, targeted civil infrastructure. At least six other people were injured, according to a statement from the Ukrainian police.

Moscow sent more than 50 ballistic missiles and about 500 drones in nine regions of Ukraine, President Volodmir Zelensky said on Sunday morning. The attack left two districts without power and public transport suspended for a few hours at the beginning of the day, Mayor Andriy Sadovyi reported. He added that a business complex on the outskirts of LVIV was on fire after the attack, describing it as a civil facility not linked to the Ukraine war effort.

A person was also injured in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, south of LVIV, according to local governor, Svitlana Onyshchuk.

Zelensky reiterated his appeal to Kiev’s Western partners to send additional air defenses to combat Russian attacks.

“Today, the Russians have again aimed at our infrastructure, everything that ensures that people can live a normal life. We need more protection, a quick implementation of all defense agreements, especially in air defense, to make this air terror useless,” the president said in a Telegram post.
