Strong typhoon in China causes storms and reaches coastal regions

A strong typhoon, called a math, hit the coastal regions of China, causing strong winds and torrential rain.

The phenomenon hit the east coast of Guangdong Province, in the south of the country, around 2:50 pm (01:50 am, GMT) this Sunday (5), with the maximum force of winds reaching up to 170 km/h.

Already in the coastal city of Jinhera, located along the east coast of Xuwen County, the wind velocities hit equivalent gusts at level 14 on the Beaufort scale, which classifies the intensity of the, causing the spread of metal sheets and the fall of trees.

A nearby fishing port suffered serious impacts, with the supply of water and interrupted energy and the affected lines of communication.

Local authorities have activated emergency response plans, asking residents to stay at home and reinforce the weather forecasts to prepare for bad weather.

Haikou Meilan International Airport canceled all flights and gradually resumed operations from 20h, local time, this Sunday (5).

On Saturday (4), the authorities activated a level IV emergency response for flooding control in Guangdong, Hainan, Guangxi and Yunnan, as the prediction was that Typhoon Matmo would bring.

China has a four -level emergencies response system, with level I being the most severe response. The weather alert system is divided into colors, with red representing the most severe alert, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
