The best for warm, with meat dishes tastes extremely. Czech red cabbage salad is a delight for the sky

The unique taste of this salad is created thanks to the combination of caramelized sugar with a slightly acidic aroma of cabbage and vinegar. Its preparation requires some time, but for a Sunday dinner is an elegant and delicious addition.

  • 1 head of red cabbage,
  • 3 medium onions,
  • 100 g cukru,
  • 100 ml of vinegar,
  • 1 teaspoon of salt,
  • half a teaspoon of cumin,
  • 2 tablespoons of lard (it can also be rapeseed oil).

Cut the cabbage in half, remove depth and outer leaves. Chop it finely with a knife or grate it on a grater.

Peel the onions and chop into small cubes. In a large saucepan, heat the lard (or oil) and fry the onion until slightly browned.

Move the onion to the side of the saucepan. In a free place, pour in sugar and let it dissolve and slightly caramelize (until it becomes golden color).

Add shredded cabbage and mix the whole vigorously, even if the sugar forms lumps – dissolve during stewing.

Add salt, cumin and pour vinegar. Mix everything thoroughly. Reduce heat, cover the saucepan and simmer the cabbage for about 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Remove the lid, increase the fire to medium and let the fluid evaporate. Stir until the cabbage begins to stick slightly and thickens gently.
