Vice President and Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, Geraldo Alckmin, said there is no date set for President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s meeting with US President Donald Trump to discuss the US tariff to Brazilian products.
On the morning of Saturday, 4, Alckmin, alongside Transport Minister Renan Filho, visited a Hyundai dealership in Brasilia. In conversation with the press, Alckmin stressed that, after launching the tariffs, the rates of pulp, iron and herbicide were reset and the rates to products such as sawed wood were reduced.
“If we add all this, it gives $ 1.7 billion,” he said. “So we had some advances. I think President Lula’s meeting with President Trump in New York was important. We have a lot of conviction that we’ll have next steps. And there’s no reason to have this tariff because the United States is surplus. They sell more to us than us.”

For Alckmin, there is “an avenue ahead to increase reciprocal investments and economic complementarity.” About the expectations of meeting between the two presidents Alckmin said only, “Let’s wait.”
The vice president said he has been talking to the secretary (US commerce) Howard Lutnick. “I also talked to the head of USTR (the American commercial office), ambassador Jamieson Greer. Good, positive conversations. Let’s wait for things to walk.”

Alckmin said no new conversations with US officials are not yet scheduled. “I was a teacher of meal for chemistry medicine. Chemistry is a great solution,” he added, referring to Trump’s speech, who said there was “chemistry” with Lula at the meeting between the two leaders in the UN General Assembly.
Meeting in NY ‘Dystempted’ the relationship, says minister
Transport Minister Renan Filho said Brazil’s negotiations with the United States around tariffs are advancing, but local problems and parallel agendas in Donald Trump’s country delayed the schedule. According to him, Shutdown always hinders the US and its business relations, because the country is paralyzed.
“The fact is that dialogue has to happen for diplomacy to do what Ulysses Guimarães said, a meeting of this level has to be tidy. But we are doing well,” he said. Alongside Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, Renan Filho visited a Hyundai dealership on Saturday in Brasilia.

The minister also cited the plan announced by President Donald Trump to ceasefire in the Gaza Strip: “There was the American plan for the pacification of the Gaza Strip that Brazil supported. There are many parallel agendas. You imagine that the Brazilian agenda is complex, imagine the American. So you have to reconcile it all.”
About the place for the meeting between the two leaders, he said: “The president (Lula) will have an international agenda now and may even have a convergence of President Trump’s international agenda. This can happen out there (from Brazil), can happen there in the United States, but is being sewn.” He stressed that the meeting between Lula and Trump in New York in September “distensed” the relationship.

“The fact is that, from the fare here, at no time there has been setback. Always the news is: It has removed it, withdrew it, has removed it. Now we have the MP 1,303, which is being processed in the National Congress, which will also be fundamental to create an alternative for the sectors that are still included with the highest tariffs. So I think the president, we will wait.”
