The French president accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Sebastian Lekorni on Monday, according to a statement from the Presidency, immersing it into an even greater political impasse.
Macron had set Lekorni in this position last month. However, the almost unchanging composition of the cabinet announced on Sunday received fierce criticism from the entire political spectrum.
According to first reports, Lekorni went to Elise in the morning where he met for about an hour with Emmanuel Macron. During their conversation the prime minister resigned.
Lekorni is expected to make a profession and speak to the French people.
