Although Martinho da Vila is internationally acclaimed as a sambista, with several compositions recorded abroad, he is a legitimate representative of Brazilian Popular Music (MPB) and a composer of recognized eclecticism. Martinho da Vila will present the essence of this multifaceted repertoire at the Ulysses Center of Convention in Brasilia, on October 31, at the Brazil Style Festival.
The vast discography, which has more than 50 albums released, highlights the mix of elements of Brazilian culture with the African. At work, Martinho explored rhythms that go far beyond samba, including Ciranda, Frevo, Coconut, Samba de Roda, Capoeira, Bossa Nova, Calango, Toada and African Sembas.
An example of research in folklore is the album “O Canto das Lavadeiras”, from 1989, which is based on the Brazilian popular tradition.
The consistent quality of work and eclecticism were valued globally, leading Martinho da Vila to accumulate 12 Latin Grammy nominations throughout his career.
The sambista has won three gramophones in these awards. The victorious albums in the Latin Grammy were “brasilatinity” (2005), “The Little Burgues” (2009) – which was a rewriting of the first album – and “de Bem with Life” (2016).
