The municipality says it can do nothing to clean the house without judicial authorization. Neighbors are concerned with the smell and risk to public health.
Residents of a building in Alcochete have been living in desperation since June, when a 62 -year -old woman was found dead in her apartment on the 1st floor of the building.
The body, in an advanced state of decomposition, was only discovered on June 16, after neighbors warned the authorities.
According to the woman, the woman I would have been dead for over a month Before the firefighters break the door.
Since then, the apartment remains closed only with a canvas placed by the condominium, a solution that cannot lock the bad smell that spreads throughout the building.
“The house was full of garbage, because the lady would be accumulating. It had the fridge full and had cats, which we did not know what happened. It is a risk to public health”, Denounces Luís Mendes, one of the residents, who claims to have tried to hire a company specializing in cleaning places, something that can only be done with judicial authorization.
The situation is particularly severe for Daniel Fernandes, who lives a half wall with the apartment and has two young children.
“I have a 4 -month -old baby and a 6 -year -old daughter living socks with this situation,” he said. Another neighbor, João Catalão, says he had a meeting with the mayor in July, which promised to ask the Public Prosecution Service to be allowed (MP) To clean the house, but the request will never have been made.
The process is now in the hands of the MP, which seeks to locate any women’s heirs. According to the residents, the victim lived alone and has no direct descendants, only an elderly mother, bedridden and dementia. Until the property is legally reversed to the state, No one can enter the housing without court order.
The Chamber of Alcochete recognizes “legitimate concerns about public health”, but ensures that “without court order It has no legitimacy to intervene”. In response to the CM, the municipality claims to have sent a letter to the MP to ask the process in the process. However, so far, it has not obtained any answer.
