The Ministry of Justice will hold a meeting on Tuesday (7) with the alcohol industry and associations to address the methanol crisis. One of the industry’s concerns is with the decision of municipalities to prohibit the sale of drinks indiscriminately.
With the expected, manufacturers want the support of the federal government to avoid widespread panic. There is still no data on the ministry, for example, the impact on sales, especially from spirits.
“The idea is to understand what the market has to say about the crisis and see how they can help. They are important in combating beverage forgery. And besides listening to complaints. It’s a difficult time for the legal market, we need to see how we can help,” says National Consumer Secretary, Paulo Henrique Pereira.
Abrabe (Brazilian Beverage Association), ABBD (Brazilian Association of Distilled Beverages) and CNI (National Industry Confederation) were called. The FNCP (National Forum Against Piracy and Illegality) and ABCF (Brazilian Association to Combat Falsification) are also expected.
