From October 11, the possibility of traveling by train to Vienna from Bratislava – Main Station will be renewed again. This was stated at Monday’s press conference Minister of Transport Jozef Ráž (Direction-SD nominee) with the participation of the Director General of the Railways of the Slovak Republic (ŽSR) Ivan Bednárik and the General Director of the Railway Company Slovakia (ZSSK) Petr Helex.
- The Bratislava-Vienna train connection will be renewed from October 11.
- Reconstruction of Devínska Nová Ves – Marchegg was completed.
- Modernization includes an increase in the speed of the track to 120 km/h.
- Travel time between cities will shorten to 56 minutes.
- The capacity of the connections is 380 seats, expecting 2 million passengers.
Train connection on the line Bratislava hl. st. – Vienna was interrupted from 4 March last year due to the reconstruction and electrification of the track in the section Devínska Nová Ves – Marchegg. “I look forward to opening such a track today, which is not afraid to say that up to an international dimension. Although this piece between Devínska Nova Ves and Marchegg may not look so important, but it is very important, as it will connect Bratislava with Vienna. This means, again, the possibility of traveling to Vienna from the main station Bratislava, not only from the Petržalská, as it has been the case, will be renewed again, ”said Ráž.
Bednárik said that the railways managed to finish construction work on the track Devínska Nová Ves – Marchegg after a ten -month delay. During its reconstruction and electrification, there were various complications, such as last year’s April and September floods or finding an underground bunker from the time of World War II. Another problem was the presence of protected animals around the construction site, but also directly on construction projects, as the track passes through the territory with the fourth degree of nature protection.
The operating speed of the track will increase from 80 kilometers per hour (km/h) to 120 km/h, which, according to him, shorten the travel time, improve the technical parameters of the track and allow more frequent connections. The total renewal of the track reached more than EUR 11.3 million for 6 October 2025.
“The total shipping capacity will be at the level of 380 seats, so we expect us to be humiliated, I hope soon or in the foreseeable future of two million passengers transported per year,” He added Helexa, adding that the time of travel between Bratislava and Vienna will be shortened by 11 minutes, so it will take 56 minutes. Passengers will have 38 train connections a day, including new morning and evening Rex trains.
