A problem called Hungary and a challenge called the defense. What Europe faces after "ambush" to Zelensky and "turning point" in Brussels

Hungary is one of the 27 member states that still uses the coin itself, the Hungarian Forint (HUF), although he has adhered to the EU in 2004. According to Brussels, the country is still in the process of adoption, since it does not fulfill various criteria for inflation, public debt and independence of the National Bank, to exemplify some

Hungary does not comply with the European requirements to be part of the eurozone, but even if it did not want to join the single currency, the country’s president, Viktor Orbán, said.

The European Union “is disintegrated,” Orbán said, and in this sense Hungary should not “tie its destiny” to the block.

“Hungary should not tie its destination to the European Union more than it is now and the adoption of the euro would be the narrowest possible connection,” he argued.

Hungary is one of the 27 member states that still uses the coin itself, the Hungarian Forint (HUF), despite having adhered to the EU in 2004. According to Brussels, the country is still in, since it does not comply with several criteria in the level of inflation, public debt and independence of the National Bank, to exemplify some.

In addition to Hungary, also Romania, Chéquia, Poland, Bulgaria, Denmark and Sweden. However, Bulgaria, which has already gathered all conditions, will officially adopt the euro from 1 January. Denmark, on the other hand, has an exclusion clause.

Orbán, in power since 2010, is one of the main Critics of the EU and one of those who most attempts to block Brussels decisions, namely at the level of foreign policy. In recent years, the EU has responded to the reforms against the rule of law in Hungary with the suspension of funds of thousands of millions.

Orbán’s position comes at a time when his rival, Péter Magyar, is campaigning (there will be legislative elections in the spring of 2026, with a date to be defined) with the promise of defrosting suspended community funds and approaching one of the poorest economies of the Euro adoption EU.
