At the age of 88, the British writer Jilly Cooper – author of the novel Polo, Rivals or Riders – died as a result of a fall. On Monday, her family announced it, TASR writes according to AFP reports and BBC television.

“I lost my girlfriend, ally, confidant and mentor. But I know she will live forever in the words she wrote on paper and screen,” Cooper’s journalist Felicity Blunt said.
The BBC reported that Cooper fell under unknown circumstances on Sunday morning. For her children, Felix and Emily, the writer’s “unexpected death was a complete shock”. “We are very proud of everything she has achieved in life, and we cannot imagine life without her contagious smile and laughter that surrounded us,” stated in a joint statement.
Jill Cooper, for free Sallytt, was born on February 21, 1937. Her best -selling novels often discussed the theme of sex, snobism and entertainment. Only in the United Kingdom was sold 11 million copies of her books.
The Disney+ streaming platform in 2024 shot a successful adaptation of her book Rivals, which brought the character of the charming hero of Rupert Campbell-Black to a brand new audience. The main character is reportedly partially inspired by the former husband of British Queen Kamila – Andrew Parker Bowles.
Queen Kamila herself said that she was “very sad” from Cooper’s death reports. “Very few writers will become a legend during her life, but Jilly was one of them. She created a brand new literary genre and made it with its own during a career that lasted more than five decades,” added.
