- UNLP Košice trade unionists turned to the Public Defender of Rights.
- They ask for examination of the hospital’s evacuation system.
University Hospital University Hospital L. Pasteur (UNLP) in Košice came to the Public Defender of Rights (GTC) Robert Dobrovodsky last year’s fire.. They claim that the hospital still has not remedied the deficiencies of the evacuation system. TASR informed the chairman of the basic trade union organization of the Medical Trade Union at UNLP Košice Peter Zimmermann.
“Of the 766 people in the building, only 404 were evacuated. The remaining 362 people, including lying patients, newborns in incubators and medical staff, remained imprisoned in the building due to the absence of a functional evacuation staircase and an elevator for immobile patients”He recalled.
Zimmermann noted that even after more than 18 months of this event, fundamental measures were not taken to eliminate these deficiencies and the evacuation system was fully functional. “Patients and employees are therefore continuing to expose the direct risk of life and health, in the event of another crisis situation,“He thinks.
The chairman said that According to the then expression of firefighters, in the case of similar crisis situations, it is actually possible to save people only to the sixth floor, although the hospital building has up to 19 floors. “There are approximately 1,500 people during normal operation,” he added.
The trade unionists therefore ask the GTC to verify the situation and the assessment of whether, as a result of the “long -term non -operation of the hospital management and the persistent non -compliant state of evacuation measures”, there is no violation of the fundamental rights of patients to protect life, health and human dignity, as well as employees’ rights.
A fire in UNLP with strong smoke broke out last March at the First Psychiatric Clinic, which is located on the fourth floor of the hospital on the SNP class. They evacuated 404 out of 766 people from the monoblock. According to firefighters, nine people were injured in the fire due to the inhalation of fumes, the amount of direct damage was preliminarily determined by EUR 100,000.
