Banco de Portugal's gold reserves value exceeds 46 billion euros

The rising price of gold has made Banco de Portugal reserves more valuable, which are already worth more than 46 billion euros, a 47% appreciation since the start of the year.

According to last year’s monetary policy implementation report, the gold arrested by Banco de Portugal () was worth 31 billion euros at the end of 2024, 34% more than in 2023.

Bank had 382.7 tons of gold, which is maintained, so the reserves were even more valued this year.

Gold, considered an asset of refuge for investors in times of uncertainty, today reached a new historical maximum, having slightly surpassed the $ 4,000 per jaguar.

Using this value as a reference, the Central Bank reserves are already worth about 46.3 billion euros, according to Lusa calculations, which translates into a 49% appreciation since the beginning of the year.

Massive purchases by central banks, the weakness of the dollar and the geopolitical context are boosting the rise of gold, which has valued almost 50% this year.
