One of the biggest Brazilian stars on the Olympia 2025 stage will be Natalia Coelho. The Woman’s Physique category athlete was champion of the most prestigious bodybuilding tournament in the world in 2022 and came second in the last two editions.
Her last three appearances at the Olympia – which will be held this weekend in Las Vegas – were preceded by four other remarkable results, in a period (from 2018 to 2021) in which she achieved two top 2s and two top 3s in the championship in question.
“It’s an honor that I take very seriously. Being an ambassador means carrying the responsibility of representing all the women who take the stage – and also those who are still walking this path. For me, it’s showing the science, sacrifice and passion that this category demands. I want to ensure that today’s athletes have access to resources and opportunities that didn’t always exist in the past. Bodybuilding is much bigger than the athlete in the spotlight.”
Natalia also says that her desire is to “represent Women’s Physique with gratitude, pride and commitment” to leave the category “even stronger” for the next generation of athletes.
Prejudice
Another point addressed by the Brazilian bodybuilder is the discrimination that muscular women suffer. “I’ve heard that strength takes away a woman’s femininity. I’ve experienced this judgment up close. But, for me, it’s the opposite: developing muscles and seeking strength is discovering our true potential. The discipline of training, eating well and living this lifestyle is a reflection of inner strength. Women are doctors, mothers, leaders and athletes. Our physique does not diminish our femininity – it shows how capable we are”, he argues.
Natalia also gives a message of comfort to women who want to enter the world of bodybuilding: “Your journey is yours, no one else’s. Don’t let other people’s opinions decide what you can or cannot achieve.”
“Bodybuilding gave me confidence, direction and people who believed in me even when I didn’t. If you surround yourself with the right people, you will discover not only the athlete in you, but a much stronger version of yourself”, he adds.
Growth of the sport
Natália celebrates the growth of bodybuilding in recent years – especially in Brazil –, which allows the sport to be known outside of niches.
According to Natalia, this growth is due to the fact that people began to understand that “sport goes beyond aesthetics”. Still according to the professional, bodybuilding “talks about health, discipline and purpose”.
“My own trajectory taught me that bodybuilding is about the entire human being: physical, mental and spiritual health, as well as resilience. That’s why so many people today identify with our sport. In Brazil, in particular, the passion and dedication that people bring to the gym every day are the basis for this strong growth”, concludes the athlete.
