Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni On Tuesday she announced that her two cabinet ministers and the head of the armory company Leonardo were filed at the International Criminal Court (ICC) filed “Complaint for participation in genocide in the Gaza band”. According to reports of Reuters and Ansa, TASR reports this.
- Prime Minister Meloni announced a complaint at the International Criminal Court.
- The complaint concerns the accusations of deductible in Gaza genocide.
- Cabinet ministers and head of Leonardo were also included.
- Mass demonstrations in Italy protest against killing in Gaza.
- The Italian government supports Israel, but distances itself from the offensive.
“Minister (Foreign Affairs Antonio) Tajani, (Minister of Defense Guido) Crosetto, director of Leonardo Roberto Cingolani and I have been reported at the International Criminal Court for participation in the genocide,” Meloni said in an interview for RAI television station. “I believe that there is now no other case of such accusation in the world or in history,” added.
Meloni did not indicate who filed a complaint on them. Italy, however, has been experiencing a wave of mass demonstrations in recent weeks to protest against killing in the Gaza Strip. In addition to the Israeli government, many protesters also criticize the Italian Prime Minister and its ministers.
According to Reuters, the current Italian government is generally a strong supporter of Israel, although it has distanced itself from the “disproportionate offensive” in Gaza. However, she did not interrupt any business or diplomatic ties with Israel, and did not recognize the Palestinian state, like other Western countries.
Investigators of the UN Council for Human Rights (UNHRC) in September stated that they concluded that Israel was committed in the Gaza Strip since October 2023 “Genocide with the intention of destroying the Palestinians”.
