Senate may vote this Wednesday on the PEC that ends the 6×1 scale

The Constitution and Justice Committee (CCJ) of the Federal Senate may vote, this Wednesday (8), on the Proposed Amendment to the Constitution (PEC) which proposes the end of the 6×1 scale and the reduction of the weekly working day from 44 to 36 hours. The measure was authored by senator Paulo Paim (PT-RS) and has senator Rogério Carvalho (PT-SE) as rapporteur.

The proposal has gained strength after the impasse in the Chamber of Deputies, where a similar PEC, presented by deputy Erika Hilton (PSOL-SP) together with the VAT Movement, has not yet been discussed. In a post on social media, Erika stated that she will personally follow the CCJ session in the Senate.

“Since the Chamber refuses to guide the PEC towards the end of the 6×1 scale, we will move the proposal forward elsewhere. A session of the Constitution and Justice Committee of the Senate is scheduled for this morning, which can vote on the PEC towards the end of the 6×1 presented by Senator Paulo Paim”, declared the deputy.

The parliamentarian highlighted that both her proposal and Paim’s have the same objective: to end the 6×1 scale and guarantee more free time for workers. “What we want is the right to rest, dignity, leisure, study, professional qualifications and, above all, life beyond work,” said Erika Hilton.

Senator Paulo Paim also spoke out on social media, reinforcing the importance of voting. “A worker who rests is a worker who has a choice and who does not sell himself. PEC 148/2015 is ready to be voted on in the Senate’s CCJ to reduce working hours”, stated the parliamentarian.

If approved by the CCJ, the proposal will go to the Senate plenary for a vote. PEC 148/2015 intends to establish a new national rule on working hours, reducing the weekly workload and extinguishing the model of six days worked for one day off, widely adopted in the country.
