The duel between Russian Danil Medvedev and the American Learner Tien will close Wednesday’s round at Shanghai Masters 1000. They face each other around 9am (Brasilia), in search of a place in the quarterfinals. The duel will be transmitted by Disney+.
19 -year -old and 36th southpaw in the ranking, Tien has won his rival twice. The first meeting between them was in January at Australian Open. And the most recent was in the semifinal of Beijing last week. Medvedev, former number 1 and current 18th in the ranking, was Shanghai champion in 2019.

Learner Tien x Daniil Medvedev: Moment and History
After losing in the opening round of the 2025 US Open, Daniil Medvedev seems to have changed his mind. The 29 -year -old Russian is experiencing a physical and mentally exhausting season – with a success rate below 60% and no title to prove.
Currently 18th in the world ranking, Medvedev has the fourth largest percentage of wins (69.5%) among active players at the Masters-1000 levels in hard courts. The former US Open champion reached the final in Halle and reached three semifinals at Open 13, Indian Wells and China Open so far.
Novice Tien performance in the ATP circuit is on the rise and shows no signs of slowdown. He reached his first round of Grand Slam at the Australian Open of 2025 and currently occupies the 36th position in the world ranking, the best of his career. Having reached the quarterfinals at remarkable events such as Acapulco, Mallorca and Hangzhou, the 19 -year -old tennis player surprised the tennis world with his second place at the 2025 China Open.
Tien has a history of 26-21 victories and losses this year and defeated names like Corentin Moutet and Cameron Norrie to enter this round.
Tien has a 2-0 history in direct confrontation against Danil Medvedev. The American won two tight wins against former number 1 in the world in 2025.
