The announced this Wednesday (8) that the Minister of Sports, André Fufuca, was removed from party decisions, the national vice-presidency of the party and the presidency of the party in Maranhão. The punishment occurred by , even after the party determined the disembarkation of the Lula government.
“The party reiterates its position that it is not and will not be part of the current government, with which it does not have any ideological or programmatic identification”, says the national president of the PP, senator Ciro Nogueira (PI), in a statement.
The ministry guarantees visibility and money for the minister to qualify for a Senate race next year. Without party leadership, however, he has no guarantee that he will run for the upper house.
This Monday (7), Fufuca stood alongside the president (PT) in Maranhão and promised to support the PT member.
“In 2022, I made a mistake. But now in 2026, my body may be tied up, but my soul, my heart and my willpower will be free to fight and to help Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva”, stated the minister, at the event in Imperatriz (MA).
Fufuca, who is a federal deputy for Maranhão, accompanied Lula at the ceremony to hand over 2,837 housing units under the Minha Casa, Minha Vida program.
After the PP’s decision this Wednesday, Fufuca spoke out on a social network and said that “my work and my actions are, unequivocally, above any internal party issues and disputes.”
“The agenda for the social and economic development of Maranhão and Brazil is above any divergences. My position will remain firm, remaining focused on the task of delivering effective public policies, maintaining the word and posture of those who work for the common good. The work does not stop”, he wrote.
