Berlin – Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Vice Chancellor Lars Klingbeil want to change the German position on the so-called “combustion phase-out” in the EU in 2035. There should be no immediate end to the combustion engine, said CDU chairman Merz after the car dialogue in the Chancellery. “If I have my way (…) there won’t be such a hard cut in 2035.” He will campaign for a change to the current regulations in the EU. The hard cut is also not technically possible. He urged that the EU summit at the end of October address the issue.
