O Government justifies it with the “expected growth in private consumption” with regard to tobacco, and with the “observed trend” this year in terms of alcohol.
The Government estimates that revenue from taxes on tobacco and alcoholic beverages will rise by around 80 million euros, totaling 1,993 million euros, according to the State Budget proposal presented this Thursday.
O tax on tobacco consumption is expected to yield 1,676 million euros next year, an increase of 72 million euros (4.4%) compared to 2025which the Government justifies with the “expected growth in private consumption”.
Already the tax on alcohol, alcoholic beverages and beverages with added sugar or sweeteners (IABA) should yield 317 million euros, plus eight million euros (2.5%), arguing the executive with the “trend observed in 2025”.
This Thursday, the Minister of State and Finance delivered the OE2026 proposal to the President of the Assembly of the Republic, the second prepared by the PSD/CDS Governments led by Luís Montenegro.
