The opposition celebrated a great victory this Wednesday (8), after suffering defeat in the plenary session with the withdrawal of Provisional Measure 1303 from the agenda, which is now set to expire at the end of the day. The MP, seen as yet another attempt to increase taxes and increase revenue, was rejected by a large majority of parliamentarians.

The vice-leader of the opposition, deputy (PL-RS), stated that the vote was a clear message from the Legislature to Planalto: “The government needs to understand that the people can no longer bear paying the bill for the PT’s spending. Parliament put an end to tax increases disguised as a provisional measure. The Chamber showed independence and said no to Lula’s fundraising drive.”

In the same vein, the deputy (União-SE) highlighted that the opposition remains vigilant: “The withdrawal of MP 1303 is a direct response to a government that only thinks about raising more to support its own swelling. Congress gave the message: no more punishing those who produce and work. Brazil needs management, not more taxes.”

The deputy (PL-SP) highlighted that the result shows the strength of the Legislature in the face of a wasteful Executive: “The Chamber did what the people expected. This MP represented more tax burden and less economic freedom. Congress gave a firm message: the Brazilian’s pocket cannot be the government’s ATM.”

The deputy (PL-MS) celebrated the government’s defeat and criticized the economic model adopted by Lula: “This is a victory against fiscal irresponsibility. The Lula government does not cut spending, it only increases taxes. Congress has shown that it will not be complicit in this policy of penalizing producers, workers and entrepreneurs.”

In closing, the deputy (PL-AM) stated that the opposition will remain vigilant to prevent further fiscal abuses: “The government insists on spending without control and then throws the bill into the people’s lap. Today, Congress gave the message: no more tax increases! Brazil needs efficiency, not more charges.”
