Congressman indicated that country singer Lee Greenwood would be a better choice than Bad Bunny
The Speaker of the United States (USA) House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, said that choosing singer Bad Bunny to perform at the Super Bowl sports championship was a “terrible decision”, reported EFE.
“I didn’t even know who Bad Bunny was, but I think it’s a terrible decision,” Johnson said after being questioned by a reporter in the halls of Congress, the legislative body of the US federal government made up of two legislative chambers, the Senate and the House of Representatives.
Mike Johnson said that the artist “does not attract a wide audience”, highlighting that at the Super Bowl “there are a lot of looks, including “a lot of young and impressionable children”.
The congressman indicated that country singer Lee Greenwood would be a better choice than Bad Bunny.
Lee Greenwood is the author of the patriotic song “God Bless the USA”, which became the unofficial anthem of the Republicans and of United States President Donald Trump’s movement, “Make America Great Again”, which in Portuguese means “Make America Great Again”.
Johnson said he had never heard of Puerto Rican singer Bad Bunny, as had Trump on Tuesday.
“I’ve never heard of him. I don’t know who he is. I don’t know why they’re doing this. He’s crazy,” Trump said in an interview on the Greg Kelly Reports program.
Bad Bunny’s future performance at the Super Bowl halftime left many Trump supporters outraged, as the singer is the first Latin artist to perform solo at a football championship concert.
Critics of the singer and defender of the rights of the LGBTQ+ community also dislike the fact that the artist only sings in Spanish and the way he challenges traditional gender norms, highlighting that Bad Bunny supported Democrat Kamala Harris against Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential elections.
Bad Bunny said on Saturday in Spanish that his presence at the sporting event was an achievement for the Latino community during Saturday Night Live (a comedy program in the USA).
The artist also said that, if people didn’t understand what he said in Spanish, then they have four months to learn, and the performance is on February 8, 2026, in Santa Clara, California.
Music magazine Billboard also announced today that the performance could represent a weekly net profit of almost 1.7 million dollars (around 1.4 million euros).
