RTP will move forward with a significant change in its information channel, in a process that involves a new identity, new faces and a new editorial positioning. The decision, announced by the administration and the information department, is part of a broader restructuring of the public company and marks the beginning of a new phase in the way the group approaches current affairs.
According to the newspaper ECO, the transformation implies the end of RTP3 and the birth of RTP Notícias, whose debut is scheduled for next Sunday, October 12th, at 6:45 pm, coinciding with local council election night. The new channel appears with the signature “Everyone. For the truth of the facts.”, an expression that, according to Vítor Gonçalves, director of the channel, reflects “the commitment to the news and the involvement of all RTP professionals”.
New name, same mission
The channel that for ten years was called RTP3 will return to the name “RTP Notícias”, used in the previous decade. Before that, the station had already been known as RTP Informação (2011-2015) and RTPN (2004-2011). According to the same source, the change is not limited to the name: it reflects a strategy to “reaffirm the importance of journalism and facts”, in a context in which, in the words of Vítor Gonçalves, “the border between truth and lies has become blurred”.
“We want to reach more people and reinforce the role of RTP as a source of credible, independent and plural information”, stated the director in the presentation of the new project. The journalist also highlighted that “this is not just an aesthetic change, it is a commitment to the essence of journalism”.
Project involves the entire RTP
The newspaper writes that the renewal of the visual identity was developed by the Ivity agency, with the generics created internally by the RTP innovation team.
The change is, in the words of Vítor Gonçalves, “a first step in a broader transformation” within the structure of public television, which also covers the image and content of all informative programs.
Among the new features is the reinforcement of the involvement of the main faces of RTP information. Journalists, such as José Rodrigues dos Santos, João Adelino Faria, Ana Lourenço and Cristina Esteves will also be on the new channel daily. The grid will also feature new presenters, such as Pedro André Esteves, Clara Osório and Maurício José.
Bet on digital and new platforms
According to the same source, the relaunch is accompanied by a strong digital focus. RTP launched a new application and a renewed website, with the aim of “being where the Portuguese are”. The channel will also reinforce its presence on social media, including TikTok, in a strategy of greater proximity to the public.
“We want a faster, more agile and more influential channel, without losing the values that define us: credibility and rigor”, said Vítor Gonçalves, quoted by the publication. The person in charge stressed that “there are no targets set in terms of audiences”, but that the objective is to “improve results and regain relevance”.
The future of RTP Notícias
According to , the new channel’s broadcasts will be made from RTP’s new information studio, in Lisbon, replicated in the studios in Porto. The space debuts precisely on the election night of October 12th and will be the permanent setting for daily broadcasts.
“It was demanding work, but exciting. In a short time we managed to make a big difference”, said Vítor Gonçalves, highlighting the commitment of the teams involved. The director stated that this is just “the first stage of a journey towards modernizing and strengthening public information”.
