United States President Donald Trump announced this Wednesday (8) that Israel and Hamas have agreed to the first phase of a peace plan for Gaza.
According to him, the agreement provides for the release of all hostages “very soon” and the withdrawal of Israeli troops to a previously agreed line.
The declaration was made on his social network, Truth Social, and celebrated as “a great day for the Arab and Muslim world, Israel, neighboring nations and the United States”.

Trump thanked mediators from Qatar, Egypt and Türkiye for their role in the negotiations, which took place in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.
The announcement comes two years and two days after the start of the Israeli offensive in Gaza, triggered by the attack on October 7, 2023, when militants led by Hamas killed around 1,200 people and kidnapped 251.
Since then, more than 67,000 Palestinians have been killed, according to the Hamas-run Ministry of Health.

The White House confirmed that the president is considering traveling to the Middle East in the coming days, possibly including visits to Egypt and, eventually, the Gaza Strip.
