Targeted by his party for deciding to remain in the Lula (PT) government, minister Celso Sabino (Tourism), from União Brasil do Pará, temporarily resumed this Wednesday (8) his mandate as federal deputy to vote in favor of the .
It imposed a defeat on the government and removed the MP from the agenda. In practice, the decision buries the measure once and for all, important for sustaining revenue and reducing mandatory expenses in 2026, the election year.
A request to withdraw from the agenda was approved by 251 votes to 193. The vote took place on the last day of the MP’s validity, which will now expire.
Sabino’s party was one of those that led the defeat of the government. Only 5 deputies from the party, which has 59 seats, voted in favor of the MP.
Among them are two former Lula ministers, Juscelino Filho (MA) and Daniela Waguinho (RJ).
Upon seeing the result of the defeat, Sabino had a serious expression, amidst the opposition’s shouts of celebration.
The defeat came even after the government made a series of concessions in an attempt to expand support for the measure, which included sparing bets (betting houses) from the initially proposed increase in taxation and maintaining the exemption on income from real estate and agribusiness securities.
Also this Wednesday, the national command decided to punish him due to his stay in the government, despite the wing linked to the president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (AP), maintaining participation in the government without threat of punishment.
The party opened an expulsion process, sending the case to the Ethics Council, for analysis within 60 days; dissolved the Pará directory, controlled by Sabino; and removed him from all party activity. He was a member of the national executive and the national directory.
