Pr in the Military Police battalions and proposes that all PMs use the device within four years has been stuck for more than two years in the Constitution, Justice and Writing Commission of Alesp (Legislative Assembly of the State of São Paulo).

The text, by the state deputy (PT), was filed on September 15, 2023. Ten days later, it went to the Constitution, Justice and Writing Committee. On October 11, the rapporteurship was assigned to deputy Altair Moraes, leader of the Republicans in the Assembly and son of a military police officer.

The proposal foresees that half of the number of Military Police battalions will be available within two years. The proportion should rise to 75% in three years and 100% in four years. At the time it was presented by the PT member, the initiative sought to respond to the actions made by the governor (Republicanos-SP) in the body camera program.

Emidio established that failure to meet the targets will result in administrative sanctions and accountability of managers and will also prohibit further budget cuts in the program.

Tarcísio even promised in the election campaign that he would do away with the cameras. In December last year, however, he stated that .

Asked about the delay in processing the project, Moraes stated that the project is in the legal study phase by the commission before preparing the opinion. “This survey is important to assess how the proposal could be implemented, especially regarding the financial impacts on the State and the possibility of possible initiative defects”, he stated in a note.

The deputy says he recognizes the relevance of the issue and understands that “the adoption of body cameras can contribute to providing greater security for both police officers and the population.” “The objective is to ensure that the opinion is technical, responsible and that the project has legal and practical viability”, he added.
