Pastelaria Aloma, in Lisbon, won the Best Pastel de Nata in Lisbon 2025 competition. The final took place on October 6th, at the Kitchen Congress, in Jardins do Marquês de Pombal, in Oeiras. Second and third were, respectively, O Pãozinho das Marias and Confeitaria Glória. “It is an affirmation, in 16 years of competition, of the quality of our custard tart. it’s a pride. The secret? It’s about doing good, several times and with quality products”, says João Castanheira, owner of the pastry shop.
A (Rua Francisco Metrass, 67, Lisbon. Tel. 213963797) is considered a reference in pastry, opened its first store in 1943, in the Lisbon neighborhood of Campo de Ourique, and expanded to several locations in the capital and also in . The name is inspired by the film “Aloma of The South Seas”, released in 1941 and which referred to Hawaii.
The grand final, open to the public, was attended by the 12 finalist establishments. They are: Café Ponte da Várzea, in Sintra, Casa do Padeiro, in Queluz, Confeitaria da Glória, in Amadora, Diamantino e Alberto, in Lisbon, O Pãozinho das Marias, in Ericeira and . The list of finalists also includes Panicoelho, Panificação e Cafetaria, from Rio de Mouro, Pastelaria Aloma, in Lisbon, Pastelaria Batalha, also in Lisbon, Pastelaria Patyanne, from Castanheira do Ribatejo, Pastelaria Santo António Castelo, and Pastelaria Taigui, both in Lisbon.
In this edition, the jury was made up of Virgílio Gomes, President of the Jury and gastronome, Davide Cunha, pastry chef, Beatriz Matias, from Pasteleira Mapa at L’and Vineyards. Also Isabel Zibaia Rafael, author and bloggerLara Figueiredo, from Pasteleira MACAM, Paulo Amado, Director of Edições do Gosto and Joana Barrios, presenter of 24 Kitchen and author are part of the panel.
According to the person in charge of the jury, during the test, characteristics such as “Appearance”, “Touch of the dough”, “Flavor and consistency of the dough”, “Filling” and “Overall flavor” are scored. The jury members taste the pastries blindly, without knowing which establishment they come from, to be a completely impartial evaluation. The challenge began with the registration phase, aimed at establishments with their own manufacturing in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area. The qualification tests continued, which took place between the 9th and 11th of September, at the Centro Lexus Lisboa.
