The Diocese of Rio Branco is preparing to celebrate this Sunday (12) the traditional Círio de Nossa Senhora de Nazaré, one of the largest religious manifestations in Acre. The expectation is to bring together around 10 thousand people, including caravans from neighboring municipalities. The program starts at 2pm, with the faithful gathering at Gameleira, from where the great procession leaves towards the Cathedral of Our Lady of Nazaré. The event will feature prayer, novenary, solemn mass and moments of tribute to the patron saint.

This year, the celebration has a special meaning as it coincides with the Day of Our Lady of Aparecida, also celebrated this Sunday. The Diocese will hold two programs: in the morning, the feast of Aparecida in Vila Pia (km 52), and in the afternoon, the Círio de Nazaré, with emphasis on the meeting of the images in the waters of the Acre River — one of the most exciting moments of the celebration.
During the ritual, an image comes out of Cadeia Velha and another from Aeroporto Velho, representing historic neighborhoods of Rio Branco. The meeting takes place in front of the flagpole and symbolizes the riverside origin of faith and life in the Amazon.

The Círio de Nazaré in Rio Branco reaches its 94th edition. Inspired by the bicentennial tradition of Belém, the Acre event has grown in religious, social and cultural dimensions, bringing together institutions, believers and volunteers around the same purpose: strengthening the faith and identity of the Acre people.
