The attorney general will undergo a new hearing on November 12 to confirm his (Attorney General’s Office).
The date was defined by the president of the Senate Constitution and Justice Committee, senator (PSD-BA). “On the 5th [de novembro] I will read the message with the nomination and look at it to the senators. Sabatina will be on the 12th in the morning and voting in the plenary in the afternoon”, he said.
The rapporteur for Gonet’s appointment for the new term at the head of the PGR will be the government senator (PSD-AM).
The choice of date was agreed last Wednesday (8) evening, in a conversation between Otto Alencar and the president of the Senate, (União Brasil-AP).
The confirmation of the hearing was made at a time when a dispute over the appointment of Lula to the open position in the (Federal Supreme Court) intensifies with the compulsory retirement of Lula.
On August 27, Lula signed Gonet’s reappointment to the position of Attorney General of the Republic, for another two years. The nomination must go through a hearing in the Senate’s CCJ and approval in the plenary, with at least 41 votes.
Government senators hope not to encounter difficulties in approving Gonet. They admit, however, that the vote margin could be tighter than in 2023, when the PGR obtained 65 votes in favor and 11 against, due to the conviction of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and allies for the coup plot.
