Israel begins transfer of 250 Palestinian prisoners to exchange them for Hamas hostages

As part of the ceasefire agreement, another 1,700 Palestinians, detained by the Israeli Army in Gaza since the start of the conflict on October 7, 2023, will also be released.

began transferring Palestinian prisoners to two prisons to exchange them for hostages held by Hamas, as part of the ceasefire agreement in confirmed this Saturday (11) the Israeli penitentiary service. The 250 prisoners would be transferred to Ofer prison, in the occupied West Bank, and to Ketziot, in the Negev desert, in southern Israel near the border with Egypt, the agency explained in a statement. They will remain in these prisons until Israeli leaders give the order to continue with the operation to “allow the hostages to return to Israel.”

Thousands of employees, including prison guards, “worked throughout the night to implement the government’s decision: ‘The milestone for the release of all Israeli hostages’,” the prison service said. Under the ceasefire agreement, Israel must release 250 Palestinian prisoners, including some serving life sentences for deadly attacks, and Hamas has until Monday to release the 48 Israeli hostages still in Gaza, some alive and others dead in captivity.

Another 1,700 Palestinians, detained by the Israeli Army during military operations in Gaza since the attacks in on October 7, 2023, they will also be released as part of the ceasefire agreement.
