(FOLHAPRESS) – Israel has begun transferring Palestinian prisoners who are to be exchanged for hostages, Tel Aviv said this Saturday (11), hours after United States President Donald Trump said that those kidnapped were also being recovered.

According to a statement from the Israel Prison Service, thousands of security agents were involved in the overnight transfer of detainees to Ofer and Ketziot prisons, from where they are expected to be released.

The announcement came after the American president stated, on Friday night (10), that the hostages “were being recovered” at that time and that some were in “very difficult underground places”. The expectation, according to him, is that those kidnapped will be returned to Israel on Monday (13).

The peace agreement, based on a 20-point plan proposed by the Republican, provides for the release of the remaining 47 hostages, living and dead, of the 251 kidnapped during the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel, on October 7, 2023.

In exchange, Tel Aviv will release 250 Palestinian prisoners and 1,700 Gazans detained since the start of the war — the list does not include any emblematic figure of the Palestinian armed struggle.

“I think there is consensus on most [do acordo]and some details, like everything else, will be resolved. You will find that when you were sitting in a beautiful room in Egypt it was easier to resolve something,” said Trump about the place where the negotiations were held.

One of the main impasses throughout the two years of war in the Gaza Strip was in relation to the disarmament of Hamas. Israel’s Prime Minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, has always stated that the objective of the conflict was to annihilate the faction, which in turn denies handing over its weapons without the creation of a Palestinian state.

Apparently, the issue should continue to be a problem, a member of the terrorist group told the AFP news agency this Tuesday that disarmament is off the table, although Trump stated that the topic would be addressed in the second phase of the peace plan.

Another question still open is in relation to the reconstruction of the territory, devastated by practically daily Israeli bombings. According to Acled (Armed Conflict Location and Event Database), the Israeli Army attacked Gaza at least 20,000 times during the conflict, and the approximately 50 million tons of rubble could take up to 21 years to be removed, according to a January UN assessment.
