Lula will meet Pope Leo 14 on Monday

President travels this Saturday (Oct 11) at 5pm; will be in Italy from October 13th to 18th to participate in the World Food Forum

The president (PT) met with Pope Leo 14 at the Vatican on Monday (October 13, 2025). It will be the first meeting between the PT member and former cardinal Robert Prevost since the beginning of the pontificate of the first American pope of the Catholic Church.

Pope Leo 14 replaced Pope Francis, who was close to Lula.

The Chief Executive will travel to Italy from October 13th to 18th to participate in the , in Rome. Boarding from Brasília is scheduled for 5pm this Saturday (Oct 11). The trip marks the celebrations of FAO’s 80th anniversary and takes place at a strategic moment for Brazil, months after the country officially left the Hunger Map.

LULA IN ITALY

After the opening of the forum, Lula will close the 2nd Meeting of the Council of Champions of the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty. During the trip, the Brazilian government intends to discuss the developments of the proposal that will be launched by the Brazilian Presidency of COP30, scheduled for November in Belém (PA).

According to government representatives, the declaration has already been negotiated with partner countries of the Global Alliance against Hunger, an initiative launched under Brazil’s presidency of the G20. The expectation is that the proposal, which establishes guidelines to accelerate global efforts to combat hunger and poverty, will be approved during the COP30 leaders’ summit.
