According to information from the São Paulo Public Security Secretariat (SSP), the police officer was the victim of robbery, robbery followed by death. According to the incident report, teams from the Federal Highway Police (PRF) were called by a pilgrim who reported that his parents had been robbed. Upon arriving at the scene, however, officers discovered that the suspects had already fled.

Then, the highway police officers were informed that a military police officer and two other pilgrims had been hit by gunfire. The victims were taken to a local hospital, but the PM did not resist. The case was registered at the Lorena Police Station as a robbery and attempted robbery.

According to the Federal Highway Police (PRF), the victim came from the city of Cruzeiro and was wearing a PM reflective vest while walking towards the sanctuary. At Km 55, he was shot in the chest during the robbery. Still according to the PRF, the criminals took a backpack, R$800 in cash and the police officer’s cell phone, who was rescued in a very serious condition. The other pilgrims who were shot were walking alongside Crispim. One of them was shot in the foot and the other was shot in the back. They were also rescued, but without complications.

Private Crispim was a member of the 4th Company 23rd Interior Military Police Battalion. He had been in the São Paulo PM for 10 years. In a statement, the battalion commander, Lieutenant Colonel Rodrigo dos Santos, lamented the PM’s death and highlighted his role in the corporation: “His commitment to the police-military mission and his integrity earned him the respect of his peers and superiors, leaving a legacy of honor and companionship,” said the commander in a post on social media.
