- Both artificial and live flowers are popular, with more and more people choosing naturalness, durability and handicraft.
- Live flowers for the cemetery: chrysanthemums (bloom in October and last a long time), heather (until the first frost), martins, dahlias and ornamental cabbage (resistant to frost, with leaves of various colors).
- Bouquets: chrysanthemums (spherical and small-flowered) in shades of white, cream, purple and burgundy, complemented with heather and ornamental cabbage, will work best; it is worth sticking to one color tone or contrasts, avoiding mixing too many colors.
- Decorations: can be made of both artificial and live flowers (heather, chrysanthemums, roses, conifers), remembering about the freshness of the plants and the use of floret for fresh flowers.
However, these compositions are increasingly embellished with ornamental cabbage. The plant that decorates squares is resistant to frost and can be used to create unique decorations. Flowers for the cemetery. Plants perfect for All Saints’ Day
Although artificial flowers seem to be the cheapest and simplest option, if we can afford live plants, it is worth choosing those that will last longer in pots. In the case of reeds, it must be taken into account that their durability, in good weather conditions (without rain and frost), is about 14 days. In autumn, we decorate the graves of our loved ones mainly with pots of chrysanthemums. These are flowers that have been associated with November 1 in Polish cemeteries for years. However, you can get chrysanthemums much earlier. The plants also bloom in October, and if properly cared for, they will last until All Saints’ Day. Another plant that will work great as a cemetery decoration is heather. A shrub in a pot can survive even until the first frost. In autumn, it is also worth decorating gravestones with marcinki, which are characterized by white and pink flowers. Dahlias will also look beautiful. It is also worth considering the hit of recent years, i.e. decorations made of ornamental cabbage. The greatest decoration of cabbage are its leaves of various colors: green, white, yellowish, pink and dark purple. In addition, some of them are slightly frayed, others are smooth, so we can create a diverse composition. They can be planted together with heather and chrysanthemums. Moreover, it works perfectly in bouquets. It is durable and retains its beauty for a long time.
All Saints’ Day bouquets. What flowers to choose for a cemetery?
On All Saints’ Day, it is worth choosing flowers that will not only survive the autumn weather, but also create a coherent, elegant composition. Chrysanthemums work best – especially spherical and small-flowered ones – in shades of white, cream, purple and burgundy. White symbolizes purity and memory, purple – reflection, and burgundy – adds depth and seriousness. Heathers and briars in pastel tones perfectly complement the compositions, giving them lightness. Ornamental cabbage in shades of green, pink and purple is an increasingly popular addition, not only durable, but also visually impressive. When choosing colors, it is worth sticking to one tone, e.g. cool (white, purple, silvery green) or warm (burgundy, gold, cream). Contrasts also work well: white chrysanthemum with dark heather, pink cabbage with green conifers. Avoid mixing too many colors. It is better to choose 2-3 dominant colors and complement them with neutral green. Thanks to this, the composition will look harmonious and classy, regardless of whether you choose live, artificial or dried flowers.
How to make a decoration for All Saints’ Day?
Artificial flower decorations are much more durable, but from time to time it is worth making a decoration from live flowers. Heathers, chrysanthemums, roses and conifers (fir branches work best), and box trees will look nice in the rays of the autumn sun. When creating compositions, remember to ensure that the plants are as fresh as possible, preferably cut on the same day. A special floret for fresh flowers will also be useful. If we want the decoration to be vertical, we stick the flowers into the floret from the top, if we want it to be wide, we stick the conifers branches all around, leaving the center for the flowers. In the remaining places we stick various types of leaves, grasses, smaller flowers such as heather and ribbons.
