The São Paulo Civil Police is investigating whether a bidding process by the City of São Paulo on the coast of São Paulo, may have motivated the murder of the former general delegate died on September 15th. According to information confirmed by sources linked to the Public Security Secretariat, one of the lines of investigation points to an electronic auction worth R$ 24.8 million, aimed at expanding the municipality’s video monitoring and Wi-Fi system. The public bidding session was opened and closed on the same day that Fontes was executed.
At the time, the former delegate held the position of Secretary of Administration at Praia Grande City Hall. The objective of the contract was to acquire new technologies to modernize municipal systems. To date, eight people have been identified as suspected of direct or indirect participation in the crime. Five are arrested, two remain at large and one was killed — identified as Humberto Gomes, 39 years old.
Last week, the city hall’s undersecretary of Management and Technology, Sandro Rogério Pardini, aged 60, was the target of search and seizure warrants. He gave a statement to the police, was released and asked to be removed from office. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether there is a relationship between the crime and the bidding process conducted by the municipal administration.
