The US government’s Department of Customs and Immigration announced this Friday (10) that the former presidential advisor.
The alleged trip was used by the minister, as a basis for keeping him in prison for six months in 2024. Martins is also a defendant in the STF case over the coup plot.
In a note, the US government department says it reached this conclusion after a thorough examination of its records.
“This conclusion directly contradicts allegations made by Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Moraes, an individual who was recently sanctioned by the US for human rights violations against the Brazilian people,” the body said in a statement.
According to Bolsonarists, the conclusion could serve as the basis for more sanctions against the Judiciary. It can also help in the defense that Martins will present to the STF soon.
The immigration department claims that Moraes cited erroneous records to justify Martins’ arrest.
“The inclusion of this incorrect record in the official system is under investigation, and appropriate measures will be taken to prevent future discrepancies from occurring,” it continues.
The department also says it “strongly condemns the misuse of this entry record to support the conviction of Martins or anyone else.”
