Greater turnout than in the last elections. More than four million people exercised their right to vote by 4 pm.
Abstention in this Sunday’s local elections should be between 43.3% and 48.3%according to surveys released by television stations SIC and TVI/CNN at 6:00 p.m.
The abstention rate in local elections has been above 40% since 2009 and in the last elections, four years ago, the second highest percentage was recorded, 46.35%slightly below the record value of 47.4% reached in 2013.
A affluence to the polls for the 2025 local elections was in 43.42% until 16:00a value higher than that recorded at the same time four years ago, according to data from the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Internal Administration. Taking into account the numbers released by the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Internal Administration (SGMAI), more than four million people exercised their right to vote until 16:00.
More than 9.3 million voters can vote in these local authorities, according to census data made available by the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Internal Administration.
Of the 9,303,840 registered voters, 9,262,722 are nationals and, of the remainder, 18,319 are foreign voters from the European Union (EU) and 22,799 are foreigners from outside the EU, in both cases registered in national territory.
Voters will choose the governing bodies of the 308 Municipal Chambers, 308 Municipal Assemblies and 3,221 Parish Assemblies, so there are three voting ballots. In total, 1,584 lists of parties, coalitions and groups of citizens are candidates for Municipal Chambers, 1,519 for Municipal Assemblies and 9,764 lists for Parish Assemblies, according to data extracted from the most updated SGMAI lists.
