Lula arrives in Rome

The president (PT) arrived this Sunday (12) to fulfill an agenda of international commitments, including a long-awaited meeting with the , scheduled for this Monday (13), at . The audience with the new pontiff, confirmed on Saturday (11) by the press service of the Holy See and the federal government, will be the first between Lula and Leo XIV since his election to command the Catholic Church. This marks the fourth time that Lula has met a pope in his political career, having already been received by John Paul II, Benedict XVI and Francis on previous occasions.

In addition to the papal meeting, Lula will participate in two other important events in the country. He will be present at the opening of the World Food Forum, promoted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The president will also close the second meeting of the Council of Champions of the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty, an initiative launched during the G-20 Leaders’ Summit under the Brazilian presidency.
