The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that Morocco will host the continent’s play-offs next month. Four teams are competing for an additional place in the 2026 World Cup.

The repechage will take place between the 13th and 16th of November with stadiums yet to be confirmed.

All winners of the nine groups automatically qualify for the World Cup, which will be held in Canada, Mexico and the United States between June and July next year. The four second-best teams in the groups will compete for an extra place in the repechage.

But this extra place does not come directly from the tournament played in Morocco in November. The team that wins this African play-off tournament will advance to the international play-offs, which will take place in March, to compete for a definitive place in the World Cup.

The four teams for the African repechage will be defined.

The clashes will be defined according to the position of the teams classified in the next FIFA ranking, to be released on October 23, with the best classified team facing the worst classified and the second best classified facing the third.

Countries already qualified for the World Cup

Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt and have already secured their qualification for the World Cup with rounds in advance. Ghana can qualify this Sunday (12) if they beat Comoros.

On Monday (13), Cape Verde can qualify with a victory playing at home, while Ivory Coast and Senegal can guarantee their place on Tuesday (14) if they do the same.

In Group C, however, there are several possibilities, with Benin, Nigeria and South Africa competing for a place in the next World Cup.

Sports context

Morocco will host the Africa Cup of Nations from December 21 to January 18 and will co-host the 2030 World Cup with Portugal and Spain.

The country will also host next year’s Women’s African Cup of Nations for the third consecutive time, in addition to the U17 Women’s World Cup, which starts next Friday (17).

The country also regularly hosts other continental football events and allows its stadiums to be used by countries whose own infrastructure is considered unsuitable for use in international competitions.
