Trump says he wants to help China after US applies new tariffs

US President declares that Chinese leader had a “bad moment”, but that he does not want problems for Beijing

The President of the United States, , said this Sunday (October 12, 2025) that he wanted “help China, not harm it”. The statement came after the Republican announced new 100% tariffs on Chinese products.

“Don’t worry about China, everything will be fine! The highly respected President Xi just had a bad time. He doesn’t want a depression for his country – and neither do I. The US wants to help China, not hurt it!!!” Trump on his profile on the social network Truth Social.

The speech took place amid escalating tension between the world’s two largest economies. North American tariffs come into force from November 1st and supersede all fees currently charged on items imported from the Asian country.

The measure was a response to recent restrictions imposed by China on the export of rare earth minerals – strategic inputs for the technology and defense industry – and to new port taxes applied to American ships.

The Ministry of Commerce of China (12.Oct.2025). The Chinese government has demanded that the US withdraw the new tax. If the measure remains in force, the Chinese government will retaliate. He did not detail what options were on the Chinese government’s table.

Speaking to journalists, a ministry spokesperson said that the US is applying disproportionate measures against the Chinese economy. He stated that while the Chinese government has placed 900 US products under new tariff barriers since the start of the trade war, the White House has already applied tariffs to more than 3,000 Chinese products.
