Ugandan Jacob Kiplimo dominated the men’s category at the Chicago Marathon this Sunday (12), crossing the finish line in two hours, two minutes and twenty-three seconds in his second race at this distance, while Ethiopian Hawi Feysa won an impressive victory in the women’s category.

Half marathon world record holder Kiplimo crossed the finish line one minute and 31 seconds ahead of Kenya’s Amos Kipruto, while Kenya’s Alex Masai came third at two hours, four minutes and thirty-seven seconds.

Kiplimo, who finished second in his marathon debut in London this year, pulled away at around the 30km mark and had already built up a lead of almost a minute with five miles to go.

He looked over his shoulder a few times during the last mile of the race, but he had nothing to worry about as he ran calmly down the home stretch completely alone and sat down in pure exhaustion a few meters past the finish line.

“To come here and win the race is a huge achievement for me,” he said after the race, telling a TV reporter that he was looking forward to running even faster.
