Trade representative Jamison Greer said on Sunday (12) that the US reached out to China for a phone call following the announcement that the country was expanding its rare earths export controls, but Beijing reportedly delayed it.
“I can tell you that we were not notified, and quickly, as soon as we found out from public sources, we reached out to the Chinese for a phone call, but they delayed it,” Greer told Fox News Channel’s “Sunday Briefing,” while calling China’s action “a power grab.”
US President Donald Trump on Friday responded to China’s expansion by imposing 100% tariffs on the country’s exports to the US, along with new export controls on “any and all critical software” until November 1.
Beijing has promised countermeasures if Trump does not back down on 100% tariffs on Chinese imports.
