In the exciting final of the under-73 kg category, Daniel Cargnin overcame the young Frenchman Dayyan Boulemtafes, aged 19. The fight was balanced and was only defined in the last ten seconds, with a yuko credited to the 27-year-old Brazilian after video review. “My first gold in Grand Prix. It’s very important”, celebrated Cargnin to Cazé TV, admitting that his performance at the Paris-2024 Games, where he came in 17th position, still motivates him.
Among women, Nauana Silva, 22 years old, reached the final of the under-63 kg category, but was defeated by ippon in less than a minute by Canadian Jessica Klimkait, taking the silver medal. Nauana, currently 11th in the world rankings, is expected to enter the top 10 in her category. The experienced Rafaela Silva, owner of two Olympic podiums, did not achieve bronze, losing the race to Kaja Kajzer, from Slovenia, also by ippon.
The Brazilian delegation’s day ended with Gabriel Falcão, 22, winning bronze. He beat Finnish Eetu Ihanamaki on the golden score, after more than 4 minutes of combat, with a decisive wazari.
This Monday, on the last day of the Lima Grand Prix, Brazil will have 10 more representatives in action: four women (Beatriz Freitas and Karol Gimenes, up to 78 kg; Giovanna Santos and Kátia Alves, over 78 kg) and six men (Guilherme Schimidt and Rafael Macedo, up to 90 kg; Giovani Ferreira and Leonardo Gonçalves, up to 100 kg; and Lucas Lima and Rafael Buzacarini, over 100 kg).
