Chega’s president, André Ventura, on the night of the local elections
São Vicente, in Madeira, becomes a historic municipality for the party. José Carlos Gonçalves will be the first president.
O He arrives will lead, for the first time, a City Council in Portugal.
Still at an early stage of counting votes in these local elections, Saint Vincent (Madeira) becomes the first municipality won by the party.
José Carlos Gonçalves He is, therefore, the first mayor elected by Chega – a party founded just 6 years ago.
They show that Chega gets 3 mandates, against 2 for the PSD/CDS. With other accounts, he convinced 49,23% of voters, against 38.93% of the also right-wing coalition. Further behind is the PS, with 8.35% of votes and the CDU with just 1.10%.
In fact, in his first words of the night, André Ventura announced: “I spoke to the president of the district who confirmed my victory in the São Vicente City Council”.
It’s the second time that Chega competes in local elections.
In his debut, in , he achieved 4,16% of votes in elections for Municipal Chambers, with 19 councilors in total; but he failed to elect any mayor.
The possibility of Chega getting more Cameras throughout this evening is still open.
