The coalition “For you, Lisbon / Moedas 2025 / PPD/PSD.CDS-PP.IL”, led by the current mayor, Carlos Moedas, won this Sunday’s local elections for the Lisbon City Council. Alexandra Leitão has already accepted defeat.
The President of Lisbon City Council, Carlos Moedaswas re-elected for a second term in office, after winning this Sunday’s local elections, with 39.92% of the votescompared to the 34.84% collected by the Viver Lisboa / PS-L-BE-PAN coalition, led by Alexandra Leitão.
Carlos Moedas’ candidacy manages to obtain 8 of the 17 councilor mandates in dispute, remaining 1 mandate away from the absolute majority, and 30 thousand more votes than in the last local authorities. In 2021, the mayor had won 7 mandates.

The socialist candidate for Lisbon municipality accepted defeat on Sunday night, still with the count of 15 of the 24 parishes in the municipality to be determinedat a time when the advantage of the coalition led by Carlos Moedas was already irrecoverable.

Alexandra Leitão, who headed the Viver Lisboa coalition, of PS, Livre, Bloco de Esquerda and PAN, promised Moedas “firm and rigorous opposition” in the coming years.
“I take full responsibility of a result that was not what we wanted. In a democracy, whoever wins has the legitimacy to govern and whoever loses has legitimacy and the duty to oppose. That’s what we’re going to do”, added Leitão.
